Florent Ghisolfi set out a clear message on Sunderland’s identity and unity after the dramatic Tyne-Wear derby win at St James’ Park. According to Sunderland Echo, he framed the result within the club’s wider direction.

Newcastle led but Sunderland came from behind to win 2-1, their first league double over their rivals since 2014-15. The result also stretched the unbeaten league run in this fixture to 11 games.

Newcastle remain without a league derby win since 2011 and have not beaten Sunderland at St James’ Park in the league since 2010. Eddie Howe’s side have dropped 22 points from winning positions this season, more than any other team.

Sunderland’s revival was driven by a strong second half. Chemsdine Talbi, 20 years and 317 days, became their youngest Premier League scorer against Newcastle, before Brian Brobbey hit a late winner, the latest ever decisive goal in a Premier League meeting between the sides.

Afterwards, Ghisolfi posted that he was proud to belong to the club and its community, while stressing there is still plenty to build and improve. He urged Sunderland to keep unity, identity and heart, noting two derby wins this season and a little more history.
