The football side of things feels unimportant at this moment in time, even if Sheffield Wednesday have the opportunity to get off minus points with a victory over West Brom. That's because securing the club's long-term future is a far more pressing concern.

For quite some time now, it has been known that Sheffield Wednesday and Storch are working towards May 1st as the deadline for a takeover, which is today and just one day before they face the Baggies on the final day of the Championship season.

Storch could be set for Independent Football Regulator checks if the Wednesday takeover is delayed beyond the date, amid other ramifications cropping up pertaining to their summer activity in the transfer market and away from the pitch.

It's been stated that talks between Dejphon Chansiri, the EFL, administrators, and Storch have been on track as the former Wednesday chairman was open to talks with Arise over reaching an agreement that would wipe the 15-point penalty they face next season in League One.

A breakthrough could be announced today or it could be on the pitch at Hillsborough tomorrow, with Wednesday fans told to arrive early against West Brom in what is expected to be a capacity crowd against James Morrison's side.

Not only that, but Storch has been teasing Wednesday fans ahead of tomorrow, too. It's why excitement is now building and another clue has potentially dropped that tomorrow is going to be vitally important.

Alan Biggs of talkSPORT has revealed what he believes to be a "good sign", with a number of famous Wednesdayites invited down to be a part of the day amid Storch's takeover going through.

Speaking via X (formerly Twitter), he wrote: "Hearing that David Hirst & Michael Vaughan are among famous Wednesdayites invited as guests to Saturday’s final game. Also record-breaking Test cricket umpire Richard Kettleborough, another SWFC fan. Got to be a good sign? Not heard anything to the contrary."

There will be an immediate feel-good factor sweeping through Hillsborough the moment it is confirmed that Chansiri is no longer at the helm. Years of frustration, uncertainty, and strained relations between ownership and supporters would be lifted in an instant.

They would be replaced by a renewed sense of optimism and unity, even with Wednesday heading down to the third tier again. For Storch and Arise, that alone provides a significant head start. Simply being seen as a clean break from the previous regime would buy early goodwill.

But also, crucially, patience from a fanbase desperate for stability. Should a takeover be completed, they would be inheriting not just a football club, but a reinvigorated atmosphere. For a club of their size, that could also be a powerful thing.

It's one that could prove to be invaluable in rebuilding momentum both on and off the pitch, with this sleeping giant perhaps slowly turning itself around.
