Markus Krösche, Dennis Schmitt and Can Uzun reflect on the 3-1 defeat against Hoffenheim.
Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “I can understand the fans’ frustration as we haven’t given them much to cheer about in recent weeks, we have to be honest. We did well in the first half, looked organised and hardly gave anything away except for one chance that Kaua saved brilliantly. Then we conceded on the counter. We’re just not defending those situations right now. It became a matter of confidence after that - the boys became more passive. When that’s the case it’s becomes difficult to get forward and regain possession in the Bundesliga. We conceded again following a set piece and then a deflected own goal. We have to get through this together.”
Interim coach Dennis Schmitt: “In the end it was a deserved win for Hoffenheim. We started the game well, looked stable and did a lot of the things we set out to do – which is how we took the lead. We weren’t able to continue competing after conceding the equaliser, we have to be honest. We fell back into old patterns after that goal. We need to keep our stability, deal with setbacks, take control again and work our way back into the game with some good passages of play. We weren’t able to do that. We’ll analyse everything in detail, both the things we did well and the things we need to improve on.”
Can Uzun: “It’s not good enough. We’re conceding three goals in every game. I thought we were ok in the first half today, we fought well. We were 1-0 up, I don’t know what to say. We have to pull ourselves out of this.”
