Leeds United's 2026/27 rivals Hull City face a race against time to avoid a points deduction, a situation that could delay a potential Elland Road exit.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Hull's Wembley play-off triumph secured a top-flight reunion with Leeds next season, but owner Acun Ilicali told supporters earlier in June that the club had overspent and must sell players before the start of July to avoid a possible deduction.
Leeds were in similar territory after losing their own Wembley final, selling Archie Gray to Spurs for £40m ahead of the Profitability and Sustainability Rules reporting deadline.
With Hull focused on redressing their overspend, incoming business will almost certainly be put on hold, including a permanent move for one of last season's loanees.
Leeds forward Joe Gelhardt settled quickly at Hull, scoring 10 before Christmas. An injury interrupted his campaign and he added four more prior to the play-offs, then struck the goal that sealed the semi-final win over Millwall to set up a Wembley final against Middlesbrough.
He finished with 15 goals and five assists, which might convince Hull he is worth taking into their Premier League survival fight. The 24-year-old has one year left on his Leeds deal and a permanent exit is all but inevitable after three loans in the past three years.
Other loanees who could depart Elland Road this summer include Max Wober, who also has a year remaining, Largie Ramazani and Isaac Schmidt.
