Hull City, set to face Leeds United in 2026/27, are racing to avoid a points deduction, a scenario that could slow a potential transfer out of Elland Road.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, owner Acun Ilicali told supporters earlier in June that Hull have overspent and must sell players before the start of July to avoid a possible penalty.
Hull’s Wembley play-off final win secured a top-flight reunion with Leeds next season. With sales the priority, incoming business will almost certainly be paused, including any attempt to turn a successful loan into a permanent deal.
Leeds forward Joe Gelhardt thrived on loan at Hull, scoring 10 goals before Christmas. An injury disrupted his season, he added four more before the play-offs and then struck the goal that sealed the semi-final win over Millwall, setting up Middlesbrough at Wembley.
He finished with 15 goals and five assists, which might persuade Hull to take him into their Premier League survival fight. Leeds were in a similar bind after failing to win their own Wembley final, selling Archie Gray to Spurs for £40m before the Profitability and Sustainability Rules reporting deadline.
Gelhardt has one year left on his Leeds deal and, after three loans in three years, a permanent exit is all-but inevitable. Other potential departures include Max Wober, also in his final year, Largie Ramazani and Isaac Schmidt.
