Inter Milan will welcome US Cremonese to the San Siro this Saturday for what is set to be a compelling Serie A showdown.
The visitors have lost 13 of their previous 16 meetings with Inter, with their only win over the Italian giants coming in 1992 at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
Cremonese come into this tie on the back of their best ever start to a top-flight campaign, though. After winning their opening two matches they have been involved in three consecutive draws, leaving them tied with Inter on nine points.
The Nerazzurri will be without Marcus Thuram, who is sidelined due to a thigh injury he picked up during their recent 3-0 Champions League win over Slavia Prague. Although Thuram initially played down the severity of the injury after the game, further medical checks confirmed that he will be out for several weeks, missing both the upcoming Serie A contest and France’s forthcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Head coach Cristian Chivu is likely to rotate his squad, making as many as five changes to the lineup. Notably, Ange-Yoan Bonny is poised to make his Serie A debut, partnering with Lautaro Martinez up front. Josep Martinez is expected to start in goal in place of Yann Sommer, while Carlos Augusto, Stefan de Vrij, and Manuel Akanji are vying for starting roles in defence.
Midfielder Davide Frattesi could also earn his first Serie A start under Chivu this season, following limited appearances totalling just 51 minutes as a substitute so far.
Possible Inter Milan starting XI: Martinez; Augusto, de Vrij, Akanji; Dimarco, Frattesi, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dumfries; Lautaro Martinez, Bonny.
The game will begin at 8pm BST on Saturday, 4th October.
For fans in the United Kingdom, the Inter Milan versus Cremonese fixture will be available to stream live on DAZN this Saturday.
