James Bord's bid to acquire Sheffield Wednesday has collapsed, despite a drawn out period of exclusivity with the administrators and putting his own money into the club for months.

Since then, three parties have registered interest in Wednesday following Bord's deal collapsing, with Sheffield Wednesday fans desperate for some answers and some semblance of a sense of direction after a week of losing to their cross-city rivals and relegation to League One.

Sheffield Wednesday's official announcement provided an update on the situation, including the fact Bord's consortium tabled an offer worth £47.8 million to buy the club.

Football League World spoke to our resident Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit Patrick McKenna for his immediate reaction to the latest information regarding Bord and the takeover bid.

He said: "So the revelation is that James Bord's consortium bid £47 million for Sheffield Wednesday. That is an absolutely staggering and ludicrous amount. That is an offer so far over our valuation.

"It's an offer which makes you think of [Dejphon] Chansiri; it's madness. I know there was the situation were the administrators were looking at £30 million as the threshold.

"But to go over it by nearly £20 million is astounding. And then, after wasting a few months, they're saying, 'oh, the club is way below their valuation'. Well, obviously? Like, where in Sheffield Wednesday could you find value of £47.8 million.

"Especially as this valuation was going down and down over the past year or so, as Chansiri destruction really took a grip at Wednesday. It would maybe seem that they put in this outrageous bid just to blow all other bids out of the water.

"You can use the analogy, which is probably quite fitting with James Bord, like some absolute bluffer in a game of poker trying to force others to fold their hand because they're bidding so high.

"I think that there is a sense that there is a bullet dodged if their plan was to bid that high. And then, as well, they've spent over £4 million on the club, then just to walk away like this.

"Yeah, it was some revelation just to see what they had bid. It's a sad reflection, really. A reflection on their business acumen and as a suitable choice to run a football club."

The latest regarding Mike Ashley and Sheffield Wednesday

Patrick wants Wednesday to avoid Mike Ashley but the latest information has confirmed Ashley remains interested in acquiring Wednesday, albeit for less than the figure Bord was interested at.

In fact, Simon Jordan predicts Ashley will save Sheffield Wednesday. However, they will have a 15-point penalty in League One if he buys the club at a lower price than Bord.

It's not all bad news, though, with Ashley believed to be willing to invest £100 million into Wednesday immediately, which shows just how serious the 61-year-old is about getting his hands on the club and returning Wednesday to better days.

It's also been claimed that Ashley has identified potential candidates to fill key positions at Hillsborough already. Perhaps a swift resolution could allow for a stronger summer and a better start to life in League One, should the former Newcastle United figure seal a deal.
