James McClean marked his Wrexham farewell at The Racecourse by making a middle-finger gesture towards Leicester City supporters, then followed up with an X-rated post.
Wales Online reports that the 36-year-old club captain, a 103-cap former Republic of Ireland international, left Wrexham at the weekend to return home and sign for Derry City. He played more than 100 games after joining in 2023 and helped the club climb from League Two to the Championship.
He attended Tuesday's 1-1 draw in the Championship to say goodbye to the home crowd. While applauding the Wrexham end, he turned to the travelling Foxes support and stuck up both middle fingers.
After the match he posted on Instagram, thanking Wrexham fans for the send-off and telling away fans to get lost using an obscenity. He looks set to escape punishment because his move to Derry City places him outside the English FA's jurisdiction.
Earlier, after his exit was confirmed, McClean wrote an emotional note to supporters and to co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. He thanked them and club staff, praised the dressing-room bond, said he wished he had joined younger, and wished Wrexham continued success.
