Jamie Carragher has not been gentle with Chelsea in the last few years, and his Telegraph column has been a particularly regular outlet for the owners and their strategy.
Unfortunately for Chelsea fans, a lot of what he says makes sense, and many supporters agree broadly with his criticism.

Today Carragher lays into the club’s attempts to become more like Arsenal. “Chelsea wanted to bully Arsenal in the Roman Abramovich era. Today, they are being run like they want to be them” is his punchy opening line.
He explains how Liam Rosenior was hired “in the hope he will become Chelsea’s version of Mikel Arteta. The former Liverpool defender points out how some early wins against top teams – notably including Chelsea in the 2020 FA Cup final – gave Arteta the authority to transform the Gunners, and survive some bad period.
“Rosenior needs to replicate that instant success against the biggest clubs and rival coaches if he is to last at Stamford Bridge.”
He’s not wrong there. Rosenior is a really promising coach and has made a good start. But he needs to rubber stamp his authority with big wins, and this run of tricky games to end the season is the perfect chance. He takes on Arteta this Sunday, the first chance he has to really show he belongs with the big boys.
There are huge Champions League and Premier League games to come in the next few months.
