Barcelona president Joan Laporta faced the media after Barça Femeni’s win over Real Madrid in the Supercopa de Espana Femenina last night and was asked about how he is approaching the upcoming presidential elections.

“With confidence and a great desire to explain what we have done. I believe that people realise everything we have done,” he began, confident he had done enough to be re-elected.

Speaking on how the decision must be democratic and fair, Laporta urged all members to come out and vote for the next board.

“After that, let it be a model election, and participatory. That each person explains their arguments to defend this club which is the best club in the world, which is Barcelona.”

The current president then gave his thoughts on the upcoming electoral procedure and when the official announcement of the election date will be made.

“Now, the call for elections has been made as the regulations stipulate, the call for elections must be issued. This will be during the month of February – now don’t tell me the day because I haven’t calculated it.”

“We, as a continuing board of directors, want to re-present ourselves; we want to continue the work accomplished. At a certain moment, we will have to submit our candidacy,” he added.

The club administrator then commented on how the election process mustn’t affect the team, their performances, or planning in any capacity, and why the chosen date is the best in that regard.

“This, at present, I believe that we must manage it with complete normality in order not to disturb our sports teams and all categories. And in that sense, we chose this date because we believe it is the most appropriate.”

Finally, he spoke on how his vision for the future goes beyond the future of just the first team, saying,

“We also discussed it with the top official in charge of football, and he said it is best to have a clear vision so that planning can be done for the upcoming seasons for women’s football, men’s football, basketball, hockey, futsal, and handball.”
