João Pedro Tchoca will return to Corinthians after his proposed move to Torino fell through. According to Globo.com, the centre-back failed his medical in Italy. The deal had been a loan with an obligation to buy.

On Friday Corinthians received formal notice of his return. He had travelled fit to play and was named in the squad to face Velo Clube last Sunday. He will rejoin training, but will not be available for the Supercopa Rei in Brasília after missing this week's sessions.

The agreement ran to the end of June with a loan fee of 1.5 million euros. A 4.5 million euro purchase would have been triggered if he played 10 matches of at least 45 minutes. A further 1 million euros was tied to bonuses, and Corinthians also retained 12% of any profit on a future sale.

While in the academy, he suffered a serious left knee injury in October 2019 and required surgery. His return was slowed when competitions were halted during the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2023 he had an ankle injury and was cut from Brazil under-20 friendlies.

Tchoca joined Corinthians in 2019 aged 16 and won the Copinha in 2024. He has made 33 senior appearances and scored one goal. He was part of Paulista and Copa do Brasil title wins last year.

When the Torino loan was agreed, coach Dorival Júnior said Corinthians would need to recruit another centre-back. The squad currently includes André Ramalho, Gustavo Henrique, Gabriel Paulista and Cacá.
