The loan with an option to buy between Corinthians and Torino for centre-back João Pedro Tchoca could be in doubt amid reports in Italy that the defender failed his medical.
Sportitalia’s Alfredo Pedullà reports the player did not pass his tests, while Nicolò Schira and Gianluca Di Marzio say Torino have blocked the deal and completion now depends on further examinations.
Corinthians have not received any formal rejection from Torino regarding the move. If the failure is confirmed, João Pedro could return for the rest of the season. The club announced his departure on Sunday in an official statement.
Corinthians were due to receive one and a half million euros, approximately R$ nine and a half million, for the loan, with the total potentially rising to seven million euros in a permanent deal. Meanwhile, Torino are studying a move for Kevin Jappert, 21, of Barracas Central, to use their remaining non-EU slot. The European transfer window closes on Saturday, 31 January.
João Pedro had a knee injury in October 2019 while in Corinthians’ academy, then his return was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. In 2023 he suffered a serious ankle problem that ruled him out of Brazil Under-20 friendlies ahead of that year’s World Cup. After his exit last weekend, Corinthians’ centre-back options are André Ramalho, Gustavo Henrique, Cacá and Gabriel Paulista, while Renato continues to work apart from the group.
