Enzo Maresca left the club at the start of the January, and Chelsea placed under-21 boss Calum McFarlane in charge for the trip to the Etihad.

McFarlane lead the Blues to an unexpected point, as Enzo Fernandez scored a last gasp equaliser, which was no more than Chelsea deserved.

John Terry frustrated with Chelsea ownership

Fans were desperate for Terry to be part of the coaching set-up, and the former captain still does work with the academy.

The club decided against having Terry involved, and he’s now spoken about the decision and admitted it left him frustrated.

“I’m in the academy with Chelsea, working with the 18s and 21s,” he told the Golf Life YouTube channel.

“I love my role there, it’s on a part-time basis. I’ve always said that if Chelsea comes up…but then do I get Chelsea without doing the other bit? Probably not.

“For me, being in the building and being part of the 21s group recently when they took the Man City game, I didn’t get the call or didn’t get included in that.

“I wasn’t annoyed, but probably more frustrated because I was certainly part of that 21s group that went over.

“So, even if I didn’t take the team – Calum took the team, did really well and got a result out of the game – I feel like I should have been part of that.”

Chelsea legend overlooked

Certainly for the supporters there’s no reason why Terry shouldn’t have been part of the staff, and it’s clearly something which disappointed him.

“Now listen, people have got to make decisions, I love when people make decisions and go: ‘Yes or no’,” he added.

“Clearly, the ownership, sporting directors, whoever makes that decision, go no, not to include me for whatever reason, I don’t know.

“That’s why I probably don’t get the Chelsea bit if I don’t go and do the other bit. But I’m certainly not looking.”
