According to Meu Timao, Corinthians expect José Martínez to report back on Friday. The midfielder has remained in Venezuela since the break to renew his passport and be eligible for matches.

His return comes amid Dorival Júnior’s frustration over poor communication. The coach has tried to reach Martínez directly by message without success.

After the Majestoso at Neo Química Arena, Dorival said the player must rebuild his standing within the squad and regain confidence before returning to his best level.

Martínez’s previous passport would have ruled him out of international fixtures such as the Libertadores group stage unless renewed. A political crisis in Venezuela, including the capture of Nicolás Maduro by the United States and border closures, delayed his return to Brazil.

The situation also affected Day Rodríguez of Corinthians’ women’s team, who still managed to return after taking three separate flights.

Martínez has not played since 21 December, the Copa do Brasil triumph in which he started against Vasco da Gama. He has missed all sessions at CT Joaquim Grava and the games against Ponte Preta, Red Bull Bragantino and São Paulo.

Without him, Corinthians continue preparations to face Santos on Thursday at 19:30 at Vila Belmiro in the fourth round of the Campeonato Paulista.
