Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho intends to make use of the talents of Trent Alexander-Arnold through something of a new role this season. That’s according to Diario AS, who have provided an insight into the Englishman’s situation.

Alexander-Arnold was for his part in from the off over the weekend, as Real Madrid locked horns with Fiorentina in a friendly clash. The former Liverpool man filled the right-back role in Los Blancos’ official formation.

Over the course of the clash, though, Trent could be seen taking up an altogether different position…

When he and his teammates were on the front foot, in possession and pressing forward, the 27-year-old stepped into a central role in the middle of the park.

And this development, it would appear, was no accident… As per the aforementioned AS, on the lookout for a more creative, playmaking presence deep in his midfield, José Mourinho requested as much of Alexander-Arnold, a trial run of sorts for the evening.

The Portuguese is understood to have been impressed by the full-back’s exploits in the role, with the Real Madrid faithful potentially set to see much more of Trent in his new defender-midfielder hybrid berth moving forward.
