In a major development, Mundo Deportivo reports that the Administrative Court of Sport (TAD) has decided to open proceedings this Friday against the president of La Liga, Javier Tebas, following a complaint submitted to the Higher Sports Council (CSD) on 20 October.

The complaint had been filed in August by Miguel Angel Galan, president of CENAFE, against Tebas, for breaching the confidentiality regarding FC Barcelona and their financial situation.

What was the complaint?

On 12 August, the president of CENAFE sent a written request to the CSD and its president, Jose Manuel Rodriguez Uribes, in which he asked to:

“Impose on Mr Javier Tebas Medrano, president of LaLiga, for the commission of 5 very serious offences under article 76.2.a) of Law 10/1990 of 15 October on Sport for breach of the duty of neutrality, the sanction of removal from office”.

According to Galan, Tebas committed very serious offences by failing to respect the confidentiality of Barcelona’s financial situation.

The first took place on 2 April this year, when La Liga publicly announced that it was not authorising the €100 million VIP box operation, which it had permitted the previous December. The refusal was based on the Catalan club’s own audit report.

The second alleged offence concerns the publication and removal of this information from La Liga’s website following complaints from Barcelona. The removal responded to a complaint made by Barcelona to La Liga.

The third alleged offence is the meeting Tebas held with Athletic Club regarding the potential payment of Nico Williams’ release clause, during which the Basque club enquired about Barcelona’s financial situation.

The fourth relates to Tebas’ public statements to the media claiming that Barcelona do not meet the 1-1 Fair Play ratio. The final alleged offence concerns the confidentiality of the document sent to the CSD on 28 March this year regarding the Dani Olmo case.

It is claimed that this behaviour caused economic and reputational harm to Barcelona.

Repercussions for Tebas

For now, La Liga say they have no official notification of the proceedings. The case will now proceed through the established process.

Based on how things go, Tebas could face sanctions ranging from a warning, to disqualification for a period of two months to one year, and in the most serious scenario, removal from office.
