Leeds United are not in talks with Celtic over a loan for Joel Piroe, according to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk.
No club-to-club discussions have taken place, and 49ers Enterprises are considered extremely unlikely to approve business that could harm the title prospects of their Glasgow club, having taken control of Rangers last year.
Piroe is in demand after last season’s Championship Golden Boot and a finishing ability Daniel Farke has called world class. Minutes have been limited by Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s form, with Lukas Nmecha and Noah Okafor preferred as second strikers.
Despite the frustration, Piroe is understood to want to stay at Elland Road and prove himself in the top flight. Clubs in the Championship and overseas are keen, yet Leeds are not pushing him towards a January exit.
Claims Celtic could match his wages are not decisive, with Championship sides able to do likewise. A loan makes little sense for Leeds, whose Profitability and Sustainability position is tight.
Leeds have enquired about Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen this month, and a permanent sale would help balance the books. There has been no change in the stance of Piroe or the club on his immediate future.
Piroe joined from Swansea City in summer 2023 for around £10m on a four-year deal. He has 109 appearances, 33 goals and 10 assists, is yet to score this season, and, in a rare start, missed a penalty at Derby County in the FA Cup last weekend.
