Leeds United host Norwich City in the FA Cup fifth round at Elland Road this afternoon, chasing only their second quarter-final this century. Daniel Farke faces his former club, with Norwich the Championship underdogs against Premier League hosts.
The club said in a statement that play will pause after sunset in Leeds at 5:56pm, expected around the 75th minute, to allow fasting players to take fluids and energy supplements in line with protocol. The pause will include Leeds striker Joel Piroe.
That follows a similar break against Manchester City last month, when some Leeds supporters booed, which the club described as disappointing and unexpected. The incident drew national attention and criticism of the club and its fans.
Leeds acknowledged their messaging before the City pause was not proactive enough and that in-stadium notices were not visible to everyone. Their overriding message ahead of today is a call for respect and a rejection of behaviour they regard as stains on the game.
On the pitch, Leeds seek relief from relegation worries by reaching the final eight. They are two wins from a return to Wembley and hope home advantage brings a return to winning ways after four league matches without a victory.
