Leicester City have been docked six points for a 23-24 Profit and Sustainability Rules breach, dragging them into a relegation fight. According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, an independent commission delivered its verdict on Thursday. The EFL applied it immediately.

Charges were filed in May 2025, covering the three years to June 2024, with a hearing held in November.

City were £20.8m over the allowable loss limit. Their reported losses exceeded £200m, though several categories are excluded under PSR.

The limit was £83m rather than £105m because two Premier League seasons and one Championship campaign were assessed. City argued for £105m, the commission sided with the Premier League, and £83m stood. On £105m, City would not have breached.

The overspend was 25 percent. EFL guidelines set seven points for 21 to 26 percent, reduced by one for mitigation. A £6.1m profit on assessment in the final year prompted the cut to six.

The Premier League wanted a 12-point starting point, and with aggravated charges there were suggestions it could have reached about 20. City also said the period should be 36 months, not 37, and the commission agreed.

City missed the deadline to supply accounts, but this was not treated as an aggravating factor so no extra sanction followed. They must decide swiftly whether to appeal so any case is heard before season’s end.

One potential appeal ground is whether the EFL could issue a deduction when the case originated with the Premier League. For 24-25, City do not appear to face further PSR trouble.
