Romelu Lukaku is edging closer to a Napoli exit, with the Belgian striker no longer a priority for Massimiliano Allegri as the new season approaches.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, via CalcioMercato.it, the forward has decided against spreading his current wages over additional years, a stance that could open the door to his departure.

Aurelio De Laurentiis values the striker at around €10m, though the bigger obstacle looks to be his salary rather than any fee.

Lukaku’s high wages the main hurdle

Lukaku earns close to €8m gross a year on a deal that runs until June 2027, a figure that narrows the field of potential suitors considerably.

Having been a key part of Antonio Conte’s 24/25 Scudetto-winning side, the centre-forward now finds himself surplus to requirements under Allegri, who is reshaping the squad to his own design.

With his wages the sticking point, Napoli face a challenge to find a workable solution, but the signs increasingly point towards the end of Lukaku’s time at the Maradona.
