Malick Fofana has had a further operation on his right ankle and should miss at least two to three weeks. The 20-year-old OL winger had been hampered since returning less than two weeks ago.

The club said in a statement that he underwent a minor procedure to remove surgical hardware inserted during his October operation.

He made two brief cameos. There were eight minutes in the Europa League last-16 second leg at Celta Vigo, a 0-2 defeat on 19 March, then five minutes in the 1-2 loss to Monaco three days later. He appeared laboured and visibly affected by inflammation in the same joint.

His carefully managed return saw him left out of Belgium’s end-March squad named by head coach Rudi Garcia.

Fofana is expected to miss the trip to Angers on Sunday and the home game against Lorient a week later. His availability for the visit to PSG on 19 April is unclear, as is his participation at the World Cup from 11 June to 19 July.

He has made 14 appearances for OL this season, scoring two goals and providing one assist. The Belgium international has five caps and one goal.
