Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has confirmed that Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez are both suspended for this weekend’s trip to Chelsea.

Maguire has received an additional one-game suspension after being charged with improper conduct. The decision comes after the defender was adjudged to sworn at fourth official Matt Donohue following his red card against Bournemouth on March 20.

Centre-back partner Lisandro Martinez is also banned. The defender was sent off against Leeds on Monday night for pulling Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s hair. United have been unsuccessful in an appeal against the decision.

“There’s not much we can react to. Massively disappointed of course,” Carrick said at his pre-match press conference.

“We’ve had a few reasons to be disappointed over those sort of situations over the last few weeks, but we have got to move on.

“The decisions have been made – something that we’re really disappointed with in many ways – but we’ve got to move on now and that’s what we’ll do.

On Martinez, he added: “We are disappointed. We didn’t agree with it. It was pretty obvious how I felt about it after the game and I still feel that way.

“It is what it is, we’ve been hit with some decisions but we have to accept it and move on.”
