In a recent post on X, journalist Ben Jacobs revealed that Manchester City are in talks to land Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali. It has been mentioned that the Mancunian club could face competition from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of the Italy international later this year.

Tonali’s Good Form In The Premier League

Tonali enjoyed a good run of form at the Tyneside club in the previous campaign when he put in a handful of solid performances for them in the middle of the park. The Italian talent found the back of the net three times and secured seven assists in 53 matches for the Magpies this season in various competitions.

The 26-year-old is currently among the most consistent midfielders in the Premier League. Thus, it is no surprise that Man City are in the mix to secure his services in this transfer window.

His current contract at the Tyneside club will expire in the summer of 2028, which could make it difficult for the Mancunian club to recruit him on the cheap later this year.

Should Manchester City Snap Tonali Up This Summer?

Tonali is a good tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to secure the ball back for his team at the centre of the park. He usually clears his lines when needed and is a tidy passer as well.

The Italy international can strike the ball with power from long range and can chip in by scoring and creating a few important goals for his team. Tonali mainly plays as a holding midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so by his manager. He has got a wealth of experience in the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the Mancunian club.

Tonali will add more bite and steel to Man City’s midfield. He has what it takes to fight for a regular first-team spot at the Etihad Stadium in the coming years.

At 26, Tonali has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a decent option for Man City to pursue this off-season. He will also help the Mancunian giants compete for some major honours over the next few years. Therefore, the Premier League outfit would be wise to snap him up before the end of this transfer period.
