Manchester City defender Rebecca Knaak has signed a contract extension with the club until the summer of 2028.
Knaak joined the club from FC Rosengard in January 2025 on an initial 18-month deal.
She played 12 games for City last season, but has been limited to four so far this campaign, after suffering a meniscus injury with Germany at Euro 2025.
Since joining the club, she has scored five goals, including in City’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United last month.
Speaking to the club’s website, Rebecca Knaak said she “feels a bit more safe” after committing her future with Manchester City until 2028.
She said: “I’m very happy about that [the length of the contract].
“When I signed here, it was a big adventure and step for me and now I feel this long-term deal will also help me feel a bit more safe and I can have more long-term goals as well.
“I’m very happy about this and I already feel at home even though it’s just been a year. So, I’m very excited to see what the next years will bring.”
One particular goal will be helping City win their first Women’s Super League title since 2016.
It now looks like the WSL title is Manchester City’s to lose after they took a six-point lead last weekend, after Chelsea’s shock defeat to Everton.
Manchester City play Aston Villa on Sunday, before the WSL wraps up for its winter break.
Knaak also spoke of her excitement over extending her future at Manchester City, insisting the culture at the club is “special”.
She said: “I guess it’s a combination of a lot of things, obviously the football part first. I love playing for City, it’s amazing, the team is great, I’ve learned so much here and also the culture, the environment.
“Manchester itself, I was actually very surprised – I didn’t expect that much – I love being here, people are very open-minded, and everyone welcomed me warmly. I just really enjoy being here.
“I think the culture is special and I think it’s very hard to find success but also the social parts and I feel like I’ve found that here.
Knaak returned from her meniscus injury in last month’s 2-1 victory over Everton.
She has quickly cemented her place back in the starting XI and will hope to play a big part in Manchester City’s push for the WSL title.
