Abdukodir Khusanov picked up a foot injury during Manchester City’s 1-all draw with Arsenal on Sunday. Unfortunately, Khusanov had to be substituted at halftime of the match at the Emirates Stadium after sustaining a foot injury. Khusanov’s foot was trodden on accidentally by Arsenal centre-back Gabriel in the first half of Sunday’s match. It was hoped that Khusanov wouldn’t be ruled out of Manchester City’s upcoming Premier League fixture against Burnley. But in a blow for Manchester City, Khusanov will miss at least three games.
Speaking ahead of Manchester City’s third-round Carabao Cup tie against Huddersfield, Pep Guardiola confirmed that Abdukodir Khusanov would miss Manchester City’s next three matches. When asked about Khusanov’s injury against Arsenal and how long the young centre-back would be out for, Pep Guardiola told the media: “He will be out for the next three games, I think.”
Abdukodir Khusanov had made the right-back spot his own during Manchester City’s past three matches. Against three tough opponents, Khusanov’s pace, athleticism and defensive acumen stood out. The young defender does look to have made the right-back position his own. But he now he is set for a spell on the sidelines and will miss Manchester City’s next three matches.
Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis are the obvious candidates to step in at right-back with Khusanov sidelined. They bring their own strengths to the role, although neither player has the physical attributes that Khusanov does. Based on his performance against Arsenal, Matheus Nunes is likely the next in line to play at right-back. He put in a strong performance in trying circumstances against Mikel Arteta’s side. Matheus Nunes seems to be the prime candidate to fill the void left by Abdukodir Khusanov’s injury.
Manchester City will miss Abdukodir Khusanov in the next three matches. It is hoped that he is only set for a short spell on the sidelines. But as of now, that remains to seen.
