Manchester United have been boosted in their pursuit of Carlos Baleba with Bayern Munich not currently chasing the Brighton midfielder.

Bayern had been linked with rivalling Manchester United to sign Baleba, who has emerged as one of Europe’s most coveted midfield talents at the Amex Stadium.

The German champions had identified the Cameroon international as a target, but are not currently working on a transfer. Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Bayern believe Baleba wants to move to Manchester United.

Internal discussions at Manchester United continue regarding the club’s midfield rebuild. Baleba is viewed as an ‘ideal solution’ by Ruben Amorim, alongside Crystal Palace younger Adam Wharton and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson.

United are keen to sign at least two new midfielders in the upcoming transfer windows, amid doubts over the futures Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo. Casemiro is also out of contract in the summer and will turn 34 in February.

“Manchester United, I can guarantee, their internal talks at the club have not stopped on Carlos Baleba because Baleba is seen still as an ideal solution by Ruben Amorim and other people at the club,” Romano said.

“Baleba, together with Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson, is seen as an ideal midfielder for Ruben Amorim.

“There were rumours in December about Bayern Munich being in talks with and being interested in Carlos Baleba. I can tell you, what I am told, Bayern at this stage are not working on a deal for Baleba. They feel the player wants to stay in England.

“They feel that the player really wanted to go to Manchester United last summer and Bayern are informed about that. They have not started a negation for Baleba, as of today.”
