Manchester United remain ‘absolutely interested’ in signing Brighton & Hove Albion star Carlos Baleba in the winter transfer window.
The Red Devils were impressed with the 21-year-old’s performances last season and tried to secure a deal for him in the summer.
United were priced out of a move after Brighton set a £100 million price tag. They cooled their interest in the young midfielder. However, journalist Fabrizio Romano says a deal is still possible.
On his YouTube channel, Romano said: “If Brighton open the door to an exit for Baleba, Man United are absolutely interested in the player.
“Man United remain in contact with people close to the player.”
United are looking to bolster their midfield after spending most of their budget to strengthen their attack last summer.
Baleba is highly rated for his physicality, ball-carrying ability and composure.
He enjoyed an excellent 2024-25 campaign for Brighton, making six direct goal contributions in 40 appearances across all competitions.
The Cameroon international’s influence has diminished this season, as he has averaged only 17 passes per game. He is yet to make a goal contribution for the Seagulls this term.
United may be reluctant to sign Baleba if Brighton demand a huge fee for him. However, they could be tempted to make an offer if they reduce their transfer demands.
