Alfredo Pedulla reports that Mario Gila wants to join Napoli, who are seen as favourites after agreeing terms with their next manager, Massimiliano Allegri.
Incoming Lazio head coach Gennaro Gattuso could inherit a depleted back line, with Alessio Romagnoli said to have the green light for Al-Sadd and first-choice goalkeeper Ivan Provedel closing in on Inter Milan.
Gila has one year left on his deal. Real Madrid hold a 50% sell-on, so president Claudio Lotito has set a €30 million price and is considering keeping the 26-year-old at Formello until June 2027.
The Barcelona-born defender is not expected to air his wishes publicly out of respect, but he wants to leave Rome this summer for a more ambitious project.
He is among Lazio’s lowest earners on around €1 million a year and is expected to relay his stance to Gattuso, who has already arrived at Formello.
Whether Lazio grant his wish by selling to Napoli without a fully satisfying offer, or instead keep him for another year, remains unresolved. The first option would end the saga, the second risks a demotivated player focused on his next chapter.
