Matheus Cunha: Fair chance Brazilian makes the Palace game

Manchester United’s humiliating defeat to Everton came amid a number of injuries to key stars in the build-up to the contest.

That was certainly not an excuse to lose to the 10-men of David Moyes, but the lack of creativity up top was badly felt.

Benjamin Sesko had already been ruled out for a month, and further bad news came in the form of Matheus Cunha suffering a head injury in training.

There were reports that he would make it in time for Monday’s game, but concussion protocols meant the Red Devils did not take any risks.

As a result, Amorim played Joshua Zirkzee up top, and fair to say, the Dutchman looked rusty given it was only his first start of the campaign.

Now, as per Ben Jacobs (via Centredevils), there is a “fair chance” that the Brazilian makes it to the matchday squad for the game against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

He has responded well to treatment, and the medical team feel his condition is stable with no lingering symptoms. Interestingly, there will be a late test and only then will the coaches take a final call.

“Sources indicate that the Brazilian has responded well to treatment and has shown no lingering symptoms, allowing club medics to progress him through the required stages of return-to-play testing.

Amorim badly needs him back

“Cunha’s potential availability is significant for United, especially given his sharp adaptation to Amorim’s system and the energy he offers in transitions.

“United are not taking any risks, but there is growing confidence that he will at least make the match-day squad if he completes the final stage of medical clearance.

“Amorim has been cautious when discussing player returns this season, but there is belief within the coaching team that Cunha’s condition has stabilised quickly enough to put him in contention.”

Amorim badly needs the ex-Wolves ace back against the Eagles, who are fifth in table, two points ahead of the Red Devils.
