Benjamin Pavard (30) has officially announced his departure from Olympique de Marseille this Monday. “A chapter is coming to an end today with Olympique de Marseille,” the defender said on his Instagram account.
“Wearing this shirt will remain a defining experience in my career and in my life. I have always tried to give my all on the pitch and to represent this club with respect and commitment. I leave with a mix of emotions, lessons learnt and the memory of a dressing room that remained united right to the end.”
“Thank you to the club, the staff, my teammates and everyone who has supported us this season. I wish OM all the best for the future.”
On loan from Inter Milan last summer, the Maubeuge-born player had a difficult season in the south of France. A regular in the heart of the Olympique Marseille defence, he made 37 appearances, 31 of them as a starter, but was often criticized for mistakes highlighted by pundits.
This accumulation of errors prompted Marseille’s management to decide not to activate the buy-option negotiated with the Milanese club. Although he remains under contract with the latter until 2028, Pavard is nevertheless reportedly looking for a way out for next season, as announced by journalist Fabrizio Romano.
At 30 and with a wealth of experience behind him, the 2018 World Cup winner is unlikely to be short of suitors ready to offer him the awaited fresh start.
