Wolves begin their Championship campaign on 14 August under new head coach Cesar Peixoto. The remit is clear, win promotion at the first attempt, and this is how the Old Gold could fare across their first five fixtures.
According to Molineux.news, the 2025/26 season was a disaster shaped by poor recruitment, with leaders departing and replacements falling short. Peixoto’s appointment, aided by Jorge Mendes, is a gamble. A Carabao Cup trip to Port Vale comes a week before the opener.
Blackburn at Molineux on the Friday night looks favourable. Rovers survived by five points last season. Verdict: win.
Preston away on 22 August is harder to call, a first chance to end Wolves’ league away drought since April 2025. North End flew early last term then faded to 14th, though they did reach the FA Cup quarter-finals. Verdict: draw.
Stoke visit on 29 August and pose another test. They started brightly then, hit by injuries, slumped to 17th and have beaten Wolves in five of the last six meetings. Even so, the hosts should edge it. Verdict: win.
West Ham away on one September is the first midweek league outing and an early barometer for Peixoto. The Hammers also want immediate promotion and Nuno Espirito Santo remains in charge. This could be the campaign’s first setback. Verdict: loss.
Birmingham away on five September follows quickly. With derby spice and Blues aiming to go up after a disappointing tilt, this will be keenly contested. Wolves have won six of the last 10 meetings and will hope to take all three. Verdict: win.
Predicted points after five Championship games, 10 from a possible 15.
