Sheffield Wed. and Sheffield United clash this Sunday at the Hillsborough Stadium on Match Day 16 of the EFL Championship. The match will be broadcast live at 12:00 on ITV 1.
The hosts are languishing on -4 points to date and are bottom of the table after a 12 point deduction for going into administration. Last time out, Henrik Pedersen's team slipped to a 3-1 defeat against Southampton (EFL Championship 2025/26).
Sheffield United, meanwhile, have picked up 10 points and currently lie in 22nd position. In their last outing, Chris Wilder's team drew 0-0 against QPR (EFL Championship 2025/26).
The last meeting between the cross-city rivals ended with Sheffield United winning 1-0.
James Mappin (The WTID Podcast): This is the big one. The game that we all look for when the fixtures come out. The Steel City Derby. I'm both excited and nervous. In a way we've got nothing to lose and everything to gain in this one. If we lose, then we're expecting it given the circumstances that we find ourselves in. If we get a draw it will be seen as a good result. A win would just be unbelievable.
All of the pressure is on them. It's just whether we can take our chances when they come our way.
Liam Cooper is a new addition for us. He signed earlier in the week so it'll be interesting if he goes straight into the side or not. I would say that he'll be on the bench but it wouldn't surprise me given the amount of experience that he has.
It's going to be tense, it's not going to be pretty, and I've no idea how it plays out.
Prediction: 1-0
Theo (Allthingsblades ): Well, here it is the first Steel City derby of the season as United travel to Hillsborough for Sundays lunchtime kick off in a vital game for the Blades’ season. A win here could be the boost Sheffield United need to finally put a run of results together and give the group a confidence boost. In the last six games between the two sides it has been three wins and three draws for the Blades, but Sheffield Wednesday currently have nothing to lose with now far behind the rest of the league they are. An early goal to settle the nerves would be key for either team but I think United will just edge it 1-0 in a very low quality game. Peck to grab his first goal in United colours for the winner!
Prediction: 0-1
