The coaching staff at La Liga giants Real Madrid see a clear central defensive pecking order emerging in the club’s first-team squad.

That’s according to Diario AS, who have on Thursday provided an insight into the situation.

New Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso currently has five chief centre-back options at his disposal.

This quintet is made up of Dean Huijsen, Antonio Rüdiger, Raúl Asencio, Éder Militão, and David Alaba.

All five are currently considered as good enough to play at least some part over the season ahead, albeit with some, of course, primed to feature more prominently than others.

When it comes to those preferred by Alonso and his staff, the trio of Huijsen, Rüdiger and Militão lead the way.

In high-profile fixtures, against Barcelona and some of the continent’s leading clubs in the Champions League, though, two of these three have reportedly emerged as outright first-choice.

As per the aforementioned AS:

‘On big days, the pairing will be Militão and Huijsen.’
