Liverpool have been handed a massive boost in their bid to bring Marc Guehi to Anfield next summer.

The Reds want the England international defender but face serious competition from Europe’s elites in the race to sign him on a free transfer.

However, according to AS, his future seems more likely to be a move to one of the Premier League ‘big six’ than crossing to the Spanish capital (Real Madrid).

The report also mentions that Liverpool are the clear favourites for his signature.

The player’s high demands, both in terms of salary and signing bonus, make a Real Madrid ‘virtually impossible’.

Liverpool should be pulling out all the stops to sign Guehi when he leaves Crystal Palace on a free transfer next summer, as expected.

The 25-year-old is the perfect long-term successor to Virgil Van Dijk and could take the reins alongside the future club legend if Ibrahima Konate leaves for free next summer.

The Reds cannot afford to let him slip away. Even if Los Blancos are out of the picture, the Merseyside outfit must be wary of Inter Milan, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

Liverpool should also consider replicating the same free transfer masterstroke with Dayot Upamecano.

The Frenchman’s contract situation at Bayern Munich could open the door for a sensational coup, and his addition would immediately improve the Reds defensively.

With Joe Gomez enduring a torrid campaign and looking likely to depart in the summer, Upamecano would represent a massive upgrade.

He is a physically dominant, ball-playing centre-back who fits the club’s tactical identity.

Pairing him with Guehi could give Liverpool a defensive core capable of anchoring their next great era, ensuring they stay competitive both in England and across Europe.

Securing both players without paying transfer fees would be an astonishing piece of business in today’s market.
