Both teams are expected to be amongst the frontrunners for promotion to the Championship this season and are in the process of building their squads ahead of the new campaign.

Wednesday were relegated from the Championship last season but have new found optimisim following the club's takeover by David Storch. As for Huddersfield, the Terriers have stagnated following their relegation to League One in 2024, failing to finish in a play-off position in the past two seasons.

The West Yorkshire side particularly struggled for consistency last season. Summer hire Lee Grant was sacked in January and then replaced by former Norwich City and Bristol City boss Liam Manning.

However, after a few months in the job Manning was granted compassionate leave, leading to Martin Drury being appointed interim head coach before eventually becoming the permanent boss after it became clear Manning wouldn't be returning to the Terriers.

Now though, it looks as though both clubs will have to look elsewhere in the transfer market.

Reading FC win race for Kyreece Lisbie - Sheffield Wednesday & Huddersfield Town snubbed

Football League World exclusively broke the news of the Terriers and the Owls being interested in a deal for the forward last week, joining the likes of Reading and Oxford in the busy transfer battle - but it's the Berkshire outfit who have managed to convince him of a move to the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

Reading finished 12th in League One last season and, like Huddersfield, will be looking to make more of an impact in the division this season following their relegation in 2023.

Lisbie was one of the standout young players in League Two last season, scoring 11 goals and registering six assists in 45 league appearances.

The 22-year-old was always expected to make the step up this summer and had a host of exciting names linked with the winger.

Lisbie comes from a football family, with his twin brother Kyrell currently playing for Peterborough United while their dad Kevin was a striker for the likes Charlton Athletic, Colchester United and Ipswich Town.

According to the Reading Chronicle, the Royals are expected to pay in the region of £500,000 to £700,000 for Lisbie, in what will be a significant coup for owner Rob Couhig providing the winger passes a medical.

Kyreece Lisbie decision is a big blow for Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town

Although missing out on a deal for Lisbie shouldn't create any significant hurdles for either Wednesday or Huddersfield in their respective bids to put together promotion-winning teams, it will certainly be a blow for both clubs to miss out on one of the hottest prospects in the EFL.

Admittedly, it appears as though geography has played a key factor in Lisbie's decision to join Reading as opposed to make a significant move up to Yorkshire.

Now, the Royals' own attempt to become one of the strongest teams in League One has been handed a boost, assuming Lisbie's move is completed.
