It is often said that adversity teaches people valuable lessons. Where Liverpool manager Arne Slot is concerned, it’s taught us that he loves trotting out excuses.
Slot has spent his past few press conferences trying to come up with reasons for the Reds’ worst domestic run in 72 years.
Snide barbs about the tactics used by opposing teams have been a feature of Slot’s attempts to justify his team’s abysmal run of results.
However, a little self-reflection would probably not go amiss for a manager whose record in England is now very similar to Erik ten Hag’s – and we know how that one ended.
Slot had a golden opportunity to guide Liverpool into the League Cup quarter-finals in midweek, but played a weakened team against Crystal Palace.
The Eagles deservedly dumped Liverpool out of the competition – you reap what you sow and all that.
Slot has got his excuses in early ahead of tomorrow’s home game against Aston Villa, pointing out that they have had more time to prepare.
When considering that Liverpool spent oodles of cash on new players during the summer transfer window, Slot’s comments are laughable.
Slot has zero excuses for Liverpool’s current demise. He’s been heavily backed by the board after a title-winning season. Stop whinging or step aside.
The Championship clash between Wrexham and Coventry City should be a tasty encounter tonight.
