Leicester City could be about to sell Boubakary Soumare before the deadline, sharpening the need for midfield additions.
RMC Sport reports that all parties have agreed a deal for the 26-year-old to join Al-Duhail in Qatar.
Soumare is into the final six months of his contract, making this month the last chance to secure a fee. His departure could leave interim boss Andy King with only three fit senior options for three midfield roles, Hamza Choudhury, Louis Page and Bobby De Cordova-Reid.
Choudhury has mostly been used at full-back this season as Ricardo Pereira’s deputy. Loanees Aaron Ramsey and Jordan James are sidelined with hamstring injuries, with Ramsey not due back until late February, and James potentially out until March.
Oliver Skipp missed the Oxford defeat after a head injury at Wrexham, and no return date has been set. Harry Winks has not featured since November, with Marti Cifuentes overlooking him amid uncertainty over his future.
Even with a change in manager, Winks may still be left out, and he also has six months remaining on his deal. Cifuentes had been keen to add an attacking midfielder, but if Soumare goes and Winks remains out or departs, City may need a deeper option too. Sunderland’s play-off-winning captain Dan Neil had been linked earlier in the window, but he joined Ipswich on Tuesday.
