Barcelona have been warned about the ‘ruthless monsters’ at St James’ Park.
This comes ahead of them travelling to play Newcastle United in the Champions League.
A huge match on Tyneside to kick off the competition for NUFC and Barcelona.
Spanish media outlet Sport posting the warning (see below) about the ‘ruthless monsters’ of Newcastle United.
Namely Joelinton, Sandro Tonali and Bruno.
The Newcastle United midfield trio are a massive factor for Eddie Howe and you suspect he will need all three of them somewhere close to their best, if they are going to stand a decent chance of defeating Barcelona.
Sport also refer to the ‘Pressure cooker’ atmosphere that they expect the Newcastle United fans to create.
A perfectly timed reminder that all of us lucky enough to be inside St James’ Park on Thursday night, must do our bit, players AND fans.
Sport report – 16 September 2025:
‘Watch out, Barca! Newcastle’s ruthless monsters
Following the departure of Alexander Isak, Newcastle are clinging to their two key players. Amid a revolution sparked by the Swede and a flood of millions, there are two (now veteran) midfield icons who are largely responsible for the Magpies being just days away from their Champions League opener against Hansi Flick’s FC Barcelona.
Without them, Eddie Howe wouldn’t have been able to secure his second Champions League qualification in the last three seasons (2022-2023 and 2024-2025).
Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali . Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes. The Rio de Janeiro native, an idol among fans, is in his fifth season in England after arriving from Lyon in January 2022. The Lombard native, as controversial for his betting scandal as he is terrifying for his footballing prowess, is in his third year at Newcastle, the undisputed master of the midfield. And a third who flies under the radar but deserves the same recognition: Joelinton . Two Brazilians and an Italian form the backbone of this Champions League team, which has its midfield as the most solid and differential area of the system against its rivals.
With Jacob Ramsey sidelined through injury , there won’t be anyone to move this trio, with Tonali being the deepest midfielder of the three, showing more composure and control.
For his part, Bruno is the “rebel” with the greatest quality and courage in attack. Joelinton is a natural worker, an all-rounder, and a player any coach would want on their team. And none of the three compromise on their defensive efforts, forming a midfield that fits together perfectly and is one of the best in Europe.
They may not be the most high-profile names, but this midfield is a daunting prospect. And if that weren’t enough, we have to add to these three the star signing of Nick Woltemade.
