Manchester United’s players enjoyed their emphatic post-match celebrations with almost 8,000 travelling supporters in attendance at the Emirates last night.

Given that United hasn’t tasted victory on Arsenal’s turf since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure in January 2019, the visitors arrived in North London as considerable underdogs on Sunday afternoon.

Their torrid record at the stadium, coupled with the fact that they were winless in five matches prior to kick-off, had Ruben Amorim and his men preparing for an uphill battle against the Gunners, who, despite their recent tumultuous form, have stayed relatively consistent in the Premier League, occupying second place after 20 matches.

And yet, just like United’s resilient showing at Anfield seven days prior, Amorim’s players left absolutely everything on the pitch throughout the 120-minute affair – this time departing with a win to show for it.

United graft until the very end for a hard-earned victory at the Emirates

A second-half strike from Bruno Fernandes broke the deadlock before Gabriel Magalhaes levelled the tie only nine minutes later, with his contribution coming almost instantaneously after Diogo Dalot had foolishly lunged into a challenge and been brandished a second yellow card, leaving United vulnerable.

Then, when Andy Madley awarded one of the most ludicrous penalties you’ll see this season, the hosts were gifted the chance to take the lead through Martin Odegaard. He proceeded to see his effort parried away by Man of the Match Altay Bayindir, who also went on to deny Kai Havertz in the penalty shootout.

Amidst the lively celebrations at full-time, Noussair Mazraoui was spotted tapping the FA Cup badge on his shirt sleeve and exclaiming: “It’s (the trophy is) ours! It’s ours!”

Indeed it is, as United entered this season’s campaign as holders of the renowned cup. Mazraoui, however, was not part of the squad that lifted it at Wembley last May, indicating he meant it’ll be the Reds’ again this time around.

Performances like we’ve seen in the last two matches would certainly boost their chances.
