Sunderland have played down suggestions they were close to signing Al-Ittihad winger Moussa Diaby, as Premier League transfer activity gathers pace in the final four weeks.
Reports had indicated a deal was finalised before work-permit points scuppered it, but Sunderland Echo understands the club were not in for the France international. Diaby, 27, could yet return to Europe, with Bayer Leverkusen and Inter Milan reported to have made offers to Al-Ittihad.
In Portugal, Sporting CP are said to have rejected Sunderland’s initial approach for Geny Catamo and insist he will not leave for less than his €60million release clause. A Bola reports the Black Cats made exploratory contact after tracking the Mozambique winger for several months.
Hull have broken their transfer record to sign Greece goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis from Olympiacos. The 23-year-old, capped nine times, has agreed a five-year deal, with the fee undisclosed but reported at £20million. He kept 64 clean sheets in 131 games and collected four Greek Super League titles.
Real Madrid would seek €150million for Vinicius Junior, according to ESPN, amid links to Arsenal as talks over a new Bernabeu deal stall.
Crystal Palace are in advanced talks to sign American teenager Zavier Gozo from Real Salt Lake, The Athletic reports. Fulham have submitted a revised £25million bid, including add-ons, for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles after an initial offer was rejected, according to the Daily Mail.
