Sunderland are set to keep Romaine Mundle beyond the deadline, with no prospect of a move to Coventry City. Sunderland Echo understands the club have no plans to sanction an exit for the winger.
The executive team have ruled out any late move for the 22-year-old, with head coach Régis Le Bris closely involved in the call. Inside the club, the matter is considered a non-starter.
Mundle’s campaign demanded patience after hamstring surgery in pre-season. Competition on the left intensified with Chemsdine Talbi, Simon Adingra and Enzo Le Fée arriving on permanent deals and featuring out wide.
Fully fit in recent weeks, he has forced his way back into contention. He made his Premier League debut against Bournemouth in late November and has since earned greater trust as his sharpness and confidence have returned.
Le Bris has been clear he wants to keep Mundle, viewing external interest as a positive reflection of the player and the club’s pathway. He notes the winger’s specific profile and says the focus is on supporting and challenging him to grow in the Premier League.
Mundle made his first start of the season in the FA Cup win at Everton, then received his first league start soon after. The head coach has been encouraged by his response after a stop-start beginning, stressing there is room to improve but also significant potential.
