Vasco’s 2-1 win over Fluminense on Thursday sparked post-match taunts at the Maracanã, with the first leg of the Copa do Brasil semi-final giving Vasco the advantage.

According to Globo.com, the wives of Nuno Moreira, Cuesta, David and Rayan were pictured after the game forming a C with their hands, a nod to Fluminense’s 1999 season in the Brazilian third division.

Before kick-off, Vasco supporters unveiled a three-dimensional mosaic featuring Iron Maiden’s mascot, Eddie the Head, holding a tricolour shirt with a C in one hand and a scythe in the other.

The mockery stayed in the stands. During the match, players avoided provocation, and the club’s social media channels did likewise.

The tie remains open. Vasco will reach the final with a draw in the return leg. Fluminense need a two-goal victory to advance, while a one-goal win would take it to penalties.

The second leg is scheduled for next Sunday at the Maracanã, with kick-off at 20:30.
