FC Bayern go into the end-of-year sprint with a broad chest – but coach Vincent Kompany made it clear before the home game against SC Freiburg that the team is still far from having reached its limit.
The Belgian, whose team has impressed both nationally and internationally this season, warned against complacency.
Speaking at the press conference, Kompany said: „We’ve already drawn against Union this season. We didn’t win the last game, we haven’t forgotten that, it’s not the perfect season. You always have to be strong at the end of the season – what you do at the beginning is a bonus. We want to be even stronger at the end. If the performances are good now, this task is not easy, but we want to be even stronger at the end of the season than we are now.“
Bayern remain at the top of the Bundesliga table and are also marching on in the Champions League. The team has won all four of its matches in the top flight. But now it’s time for the next Bundesliga clash.
Kompany said of opponents Freiburg: „Freiburg are one of the best examples of consistency. I’m a big fan of consistency in soccer. They have a coach who used to be a player there. They’ve never really changed their ways, they’ve always just made small adjustments. If you look at the scouting, they know exactly which players suit their game. Games against them are never easy, they can hold their own against any team. Many compliments to the club and the organisation. I’m really looking forward to the game.“

Due to the international break, practically the entire Bayern team had flown out – in Freiburg, on the other hand, they were able to concentrate fully on the clash with FCB. Kompany commented: „It could be an advantage, of course. But the truth is that we have a bigger budget than Freiburg. I don’t want any excuses. There was no disappointment in our team, all the lads have qualified for the World Cup and are coming back with positive feelings. Of course, I’d prefer to have the players all week, but the players and we’re used to that.“
