Ella Toone has got her season off to a fast start for Manchester United
Here at SheKicks, we take a look at who is leading the way in England for most assists to start the 2025/26 domestic campaign.
Ella Toone is leading the assist race as the WSL and WSL2 takes an international break, but there is plenty lining up behind the Manchester United star.
=2. Beth Mead – 3 (Arsenal)
=2. Annabel Blanchard – 3 (Crystal Palace)
=2. Jess Simpson – 3 (Southampton)
=2. Sophie Peskett – 3 (Ipswich Town)
Manchester United midfielder Ella Toone has carried her form from Euro 2025 into the start of the WSL season.
Toone has been unstoppable as United have soared in the league and with six goal contributions so far, no other player in England has started the campaign better.
The England star picked up two goals and two assists in Switzerland and she played an important role in the Lionesses second European Championship. After the Euros, Toone admitted that she was ready to ‘grow up’ as a veteran in the United squad this season.
In United’s first game of the season Toone grabbed a goal and assist against Leicester and she hasn’t looked back since.
The 26-year-old has managed a goal contribution in each of her last three WSL games. With two assists against Everton in her latest league outing, Toone is heading into the international break in great form.
It really is England leading the way in the WSL this season, as just behind Toone in the assist records is international teammate Beth Mead.
The Arsenal winger has seen reduced game time this season with new arrivals like Olivia Smith and Chloe Kelly coming into the fold, but less minutes hasn’t slowed Mead’s production.
In contrast to Toone, Mead picked up all three of her assists in the first two WSL games this season, with her form also seeing a dip as Arsenal struggled through September and early October.
The 30-year-old does head off to the international break following a strong performance though, as Mead netted in Arsenal’s 2-0 Champions League win before the break.
Both Mead and Toone have joined up with the Lionesses as they play their first two games as part of England’s homecoming tour.
The only other players on three assists this season all play in the women’s Championship.
Annabel Blanchard has averaged an assist every other game so far this year and she has been one of the brightest creative sparks for Crystal Palace in what has been a disappointing start to the season.
The midfielder picked up two assists in an eight goal thriller against Southampton last month. She also created the equaliser for Palace as they drew 2-2 with Newcastle in October.
Blanchard contributed towards 18 goals last season for the Eagles and she is already a player of the season contender for the club after an impressive start to the campaign.
The 24-year-old was one of five stars released by Palace at the end of last season, but it wasn’t long before the club re-signed one of their most talented players.
Southampton’s Jess Simpson is the only outlier on this list in the fact that she is the only defender with three assists to her name.
Simpson picked up two assists early in the season but it is her past month with the Saints that has turned heads.
The full-back was player of the match against Portsmouth in her final game before the international break. Against her club’s local rivals Simpson got an early assist before scoring her first of the season.
Simpson’s goal was a shock Olimpico which has since been nominated for goal of the month in the Championship.
As a result of her impressive October, Simpson has also been nominated for WSL2 player of the month.
The Saints defender may still have a long way to go before a first international call-up, but she has thrown her name in for the 2026 World Cup after a great start to the year.
The final player in England’s top two leagues on three assists heading into the international break is Sophie Peskett.
Peskett had a quiet start to the season but the Ipswich Town star has burst into life in October.
The international break couldn’t have come at a much worse time for the Tractor Girls winger, who has three assists in her last two games alone.
Peskett was player of the match as Ipswich edged past Portsmouth at the end of September. The 22-year-old picked up a brace of assists to save Ipswich late in the day.
In their final game before the break Ipswich lost to Sheffield United but Peskett was able to nick a consolation assist when the game was already dead and buried.
