Ander Herrera’s stint at Boca has been cut short, the Spanish midfielder agreeing to terminate his contract after being left out of the new coaching staff’s plans. He will leave the La Ribera club in the coming hours.

According to LaNumer12.com.ar, Rodolfo Arruabarrena set non-negotiable conditions to take charge and submitted a list of players outside his plans, with Herrera the headline omission as a major reset begins.

His 18-month stay at Brandsen 805 closes with around six months left on his deal. The club had hoped for his full recovery, but the demands of the new regime and immediate sporting needs accelerated the call.

He maintains a strong relationship with Juan Román Riquelme and the legal formalities are expected to be completed smoothly. At 36, his body struggled with the intensity of Argentine football and repeated injuries undermined his impact.

He featured in 29 of Boca’s 68 games since arriving, logging 1,174 minutes and scoring one official goal against Barcelona in the Copa Libertadores. Six muscle strains curtailed any rhythm.

His exit forms part of a broader restructuring, with Arruabarrena seeking a leaner squad of fully fit competitors. With Nicolás Orsini already gone and Herrera’s paperwork advancing, the board are working to free up places and reduce the wage bill.

Further departures are expected in the coming days, with Agustín Martegani, Lucas Janson and Juan Ramírez seen as likely short term exits.
