Manchester City appointed new manager Andrée Jeglertz after Euro 2025 this summer
Manchester City boss Andrée Jeglertz has admitted that his team are still building ahead of their first WSL game against Chelsea on Friday.
Andrée Jeglertz was hired as the new City boss this summer after managing Denmark at Euro 2025.
Manchester City may be one of the best teams in the WSL, but they are facing the toughest possible opponent in their league opener.
Six-time consecutive champions, Chelsea, will host City on Friday night to kick off the new campaign.
Although they face off against the previously unstoppable Chelsea, Jeglertz sees the game as an opportunity for his team to show what they are made of.
“It (facing Chelsea) is the biggest opportunity because also coming to face the team that’s been winning the league for some years,” he said.
“It’s a good hint of where are we. We think that we’re ready and going in and playing that game, for me it’s just a great opportunity to see what level we’re at right now. It gives me guidance and the players this is where we are and where we need to improve.”
Despite being one of the favourites with UK betting sites to win the WSL this season, Jeglertz has admitted that his team is still building for the new campaign.
“We’re well prepared and definitely ready for Friday. But at the same time I know it’s a lot of players coming in later, so we’re still building a bit.
“But looking at training today, the players are 100% prepared for the game Friday.”
City have made five signings so far this year with Iman Beney, Sydney Lohmann, Jade Rose, Eartha Cumings and Laura Wienroither all joining the club.
The new signings could all feature against Chelsea on Friday but City may not be done in the window just yet, with the market closing on Thursday afternoon.
