Barcelona face major setback in race for teenage midfield sensation | OneFootball

According to SPORT, Barcelona are closely monitoring Kennet Eichhorn, a highly-rated 16-year-old currently developing at Hertha Berlin. 

The youngster has emerged as one of the most promising midfield talents in Germany, attracting attention from across the continent.

For what it is worth, the Catalan club’s interest is not random, as there is growing awareness that Pedri is being overworked, with his heavy workload becoming a recurring concern.

Barcelona are keen to bring in a young midfielder capable of sharing the burden, offering both depth and long-term continuity and Eichhorn, in that regard, fits that profile perfectly.

However, what initially seemed like a smart, low-cost opportunity is turning into a far more complex operation.

Bayern and Man City complicate deal

As such, Barcelona were already wary of interest from Bayern Munich, who had made early moves to position themselves strongly in negotiations. 

The German giants have reportedly been working to win over the player’s camp, putting pressure on Barcelona’s financial strategy.

Now, the situation has escalated further with the arrival of Manchester City into the race.

The Premier League side is said to be actively searching for a long-term successor to Rodri and have entered the pursuit of Eichhorn with serious intent. 

Their financial muscle poses a significant threat to Barcelona, who were hoping to avoid a bidding war by relying on their sporting project and reputation.

Real Madrid and others monitoring situation

Apart from Bayern and Man City, several top German clubs and Premier League sides are reportedly keeping close tabs on Eichhorn’s development.

Even Real Madrid have made initial enquiries to understand the player’s situation, ensuring they remain in the loop should an opportunity arise.

For Barcelona, though, this is where the challenge becomes clear, as the sporting department had envisioned a cost-effective deal.

But with multiple heavyweights now involved, that strategy is under serious threat.
