Chelsea: Liam Rosenior planning Mykhailo Mudryk talks at the 'right' time after inaccurate training claim

Chelsea boss has also dismissed claims the winger was back in training this week

Liam Rosenior has not spoken to suspended Chelsea forward Mykhailo Mudryk and only plans to do so once he feels he can have a “positive impact” on the Ukrainian.

Mudryk's last appearance for Chelsea was in November 2024 in a Conference League win against Heidenheim in which he scored.

He has since been out of the picture after being charged in June 2025 with a violation of the FA’s anti-doping rules having failed a drug test.

The positive test was for the prohibited substance meldonium, and under FA rules it was said at the time that Mudryk could face a suspension from football of up to four years.

There was inaccurate reporting this week that suggested Mudryk was back in training, but he is understood to have not been on the premises of Chelsea’s Cobham training ground recently.

On Friday, new head coach Rosenior was asked whether he has reached out to 25-year-old Mudryk yet.

“Not yet,” he replied. “It’s definitely something that I want to do, but there are many things I want to do and haven’t been able to do.

“But, no, he’s a magnificent player. He’s had a really difficult time and when the moment is right for me and him and the club, I’ll definitely have a conversation with him.”

Rosenior was then asked by Standard Sport on when the “right” time might be.

The Englishman, 41, answered: “The time is right when I speak with the board and the sporting directors and when it’s right that he’s in a place where I can have an impact, in a positive way, on his career.”
