Chelsea agreed a deal to sign Geovany Quenda way back in the spring, and we’re now halfway to his eventual arrival at Stamford Bridge at the end of this season.

The talented Sporting winger is still not an every week starter in Portugal, getting mainly sub minutes and chances in rotated teams, but he’s still impressing and developing, and we’d imagine Chelsea’s sporting directors are happy with what they’re seeing.

Still just 19, there’s been a bit of speculation about what the plan for next season is. There’s a lot of competition for minutes in Chelsea’s first team, and a loan for the kid was mooted.

Football.London claim to have the inside track on this one. They claim that their sources have told them that Chelsea “have communicated to Quenda that will be part of Maresca’s first team plans in SW6 next season.”

“Some had speculated over a loan move for the Portugal international, who will be 19 by the time he arrives in west London, but Chelsea have plans for him to be in and around the senior squad in 2026/27.”

We’re not so sure anyone can be so certain about that – a lot will depend on how Quenda gets on in the rest of this season with sporting, and whether he’s able to impress Maresca in preseason next summer. But it certainly seems like he’s being lined up for first team action right away.

In other news…

Chelsea are still being linked with Kenan Yildiz, the attacking midfielder at Juventus whose contract is gradually ticking towards an end. We looked at his future in the piece here.

Nicolas Jackson is another player who wants a move, in his case away from Chelsea. It’s not looking promising, but sources close to the player claim it’s still on the cards.
