Liverpool dropped more points last night as they drew 1-1 with Sunderland at Anfield, with pressure ramping up on Arne Slot.
The Reds have secured just four wins from their last 14 games across all competitions and currently sit 8th in the Premier League table.
Over the next week, Liverpool face crucial fixtures against Leeds United and Inter Milan. Failure to put in improved performances and results could see Slot’s job become untenable.
Perhaps the biggest question surrounding that potential decision is who would come in to replace the title-winning head coach….
Plenty of Liverpool will fans would jump at the chance to have Jurgen Klopp back at Anfield, even if it was just on a temporary basis.
The German was hugely succesful during his nine years at the club, winning the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Club, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup and the Carabao Cup twice.
However, Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube, maintains the stance that a return isn’t on the cards as it stands…
“Despite all of the questions, I am not aware of Liverpool having any sort of contact with Jurgen Klopp.”
“We know that they need to fix the situation with Arne Slot, but at the moment there is no talks over a Jurgen Klopp return.”
“Klopp is fully focused on the project in the Red Bull group and that is the story today. Everything is really quiet.”
Should Arne Slot’s woes continue and force Liverpool into pulling the trigger, there’s a few interesting names that could be considered.
On a permanent basis, names like Andoni Iraola of Bournemouth, Oliver Glasner of Crystal Palace and Roberto De Zerbi of Marseille could be candidates.
If Liverpool were to wait out for an elite name, they could turn to someone like Steven Gerrard on an interim basis until the end of the season.
By then, someone like Xabi Alonso or Luis Enrique could be available, which could be more appealing to the Liverpool hierarchy.
